Remarkably few sites are dedicated to Michigan wines, and even fewer journalists regularly write about them. Here are those we've found. |
Michigan Grape & Wine Industry Council
All-around excellent site from the state Agriculture Department's wine-promotion team. Reliable information and maps for visits to Michigan wine country, plus an up-to-date compilation (most with links) of every Michigan winery, by region. But except for lists of medal-winners, don't expect anything on the relative merits of the wineries, their products or visitor-friendliness. |
Cari Noga's Michgrapevine
Cari Noga, whose wine business blog also appears on MichWine, is an experienced Traverse City freelance journalist specializing in the dollars-and-cents, bricks-and-mortar side of Michigan's wine industry, as opposed to what she terms the "glass-swirling" stuff. She packs in a lot of information, but keeps things moving with an engaging prose style. |
Sandra Silfven, Detroit News Wine Report
Veteran Detroit journalist publishes an every-Thursday column about Michigan wine goings-on. Her love for her subject is clear, though her reporting can veer in the direction of cheerleading. The Wine Report page archives her past columns, along with a selection of events, wine suggestions, and national wire service wine news. |
Michigan Vine
An appealing hodge-podge that's part winery promotion, part winemaker profiling, and part rolling tasting party. A strongly personal site run by two women who clearly enjoy their wines and wine events -- and also enjoy organizing some of the latter. |
